About the HEAT Project (Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation)

The Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project is a flagship initiative of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, implemented under the Ministry of Education and jointly funded by the Government of Bangladesh and the World Bank. The project runs from July 2023 to June 2028.

The main objective of the HEAT Project is to implement essential reform agendas in the higher education sector of Bangladesh. These reforms focus on strengthening digital networks and educational resources, promoting innovation and patenting, enhancing quality assurance and accreditation, and providing competitive research grants to foster advanced, globally relevant research.

A key emphasis of the project is competence building in graduates to prepare them for Industry 4.0 (IR4) and beyond, through the improvement of teaching and learning environments and practices. The HEAT Project aims to transform Bangladesh’s higher education system into a more digitally advanced, research-oriented, and globally competitive ecosystem.
