Travel Information

A.   Climate and Weather

Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate, characterized by moderate to high temperatures, high humidity, and distinct seasonal variations throughout the year. The country experiences six traditional seasons (dominantly three), along with short transitional periods between them.

1. Winter (November – February)

·        Weather: Cool, dry, and pleasant.

·        Average Temperature: 12°C to 26°C.

·        Conditions: Clear skies, low humidity, and minimal rainfall.

·        Best Time to Visit: Ideal for travel, outdoor events, and conferences — including APAN61 (January 2026).

 2. Summer / Pre-Monsoon (March – May)

·        Weather: Hot and humid, often with nor’westers (sudden thunderstorms).

·        Average Temperature: 25°C to 35°C, sometimes reaching 40°C.

·        Conditions: Increasing humidity and occasional rainstorms.

 3. Monsoon (June – October)

·        Weather: Warm, humid, and rainy.

·        Average Temperature: 24°C to 33°C.

·        Conditions: Heavy rainfall, occasional flooding, and lush greenery across the country.

B.   Weather Forecast during APAN61

·        Daily high temperatures are likely to be around 24–26 °C (≈ 75–79 °F) from 10 am to 4 pm

·        Overnights could be cooler, with lows around 12–16 °C (≈ 53–61 °F) from 4pm to 10 am

·        Rainfall is minimal in late January; days are generally dry and clear with fog and dew except bright daylight.

·        Humidity tends to be comfortable, and cloud cover relatively low during this cooler season.

C.   Clothing Advice for Travelers

To ensure comfort during your stay, here are suggestions for what to pack:

·        Daytime (during outings):

o   Light long-sleeve clothing (cotton or breathable fabric).

o   Lightweight trousers or a skirt.

o   A light cardigan or sweater in case of indoor air-conditioning.

·        Evenings / Early mornings:

o   Bring a medium-weight jacket or a warm layer (e.g., fleece or wool sweater) since it can feel cool at 12–16 °C.

o   A scarf or wrap could add comfort.

·        Footwear & accessories:

o   Comfortable shoes for walking around the city.

o   Sunglasses and a hat are useful for bright, clear days.

·        Event/travel-specific:

o   When attending formal sessions, business casual attire is suitable — adding a blazer or shawl.

o   A compact umbrella is not strictly necessary given low chance of rain, but if you prefer to be prepared, a small one won’t hurt.

o   As the winter air is dry, it’s advisable to bring lip balm or petroleum jelly to prevent dryness.

D. Charging Port

Most hotels in Bangladesh provide both two-pin and three-pin plug sockets. Travelers are advised to bring a universal adapter to ensure compatibility with their electronic devices. Illustrative images of plug types:
